Is It T.I.M.E.™ for You to Exercise? HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills is proud to once again be offering the T.I.M.E. Exercise Program. T.I.M.E. stands for Together In Movement and Exercise and was first offered last spring as a pilot program and made possible again through funding from the Government of Ontario. The popular program is tailored to people who have balance and mobility problems resulting from conditions such as stroke, acquired brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or weakness after a hospital stay. “I’m very pleased that the Province is investing in the health of residents,” said Mayor Rick Bonnette. “Our job at the local level is to deliver good quality programs that serve the needs of our community and funding from other levels of government supports our efforts to do this.” The program will run from 9:15-10:45 am on Mondays and Thursdays at the Hillsview Active Living Centre in Georgetown, located at 318 Guelph Street. Focussed on improving balance and mobility, the program is delivered by certified fitness leaders who have received T.I.M.E. training through the West GTA Stroke Network. Registrations are being accepted now for the program which starts on Thursday, October 12 and runs for 9 weeks for $50. Participants must be able to walk 10 metres with or without a walking aid, and are required to provide clearance by a physician. “The T.I.M.E. program is much more than a simple exercise class,” said Instructor Christine Mclaughlin. “Throughout the program we focus on improving overall function during day-to-day activities, increasing mobility, and improving balance and coordination. We are also able to work closely with each participant to ensure that any individual challenges they may have are being addressed.” Sandy Rahn, another T.I.M.E. instructor agreed: “Everyone needs to exercise and we implement safe, functional and effective exercise for those who need that extra help. The foundation of the program that we provide is a relationship between building mobility, well-being and team support. Anyone who feels that they are at risk for increasingly sedentary lifestyles associated with deterioration in function and health would benefit from taking this program.” About the Town of Halton Hills The Town of Halton Hills, with a population of approximately 60,000, consists of two urban centres, Georgetown and Acton, with three hamlets – Glen Williams, Stewarttown and Norval – and several smaller settlements.
