Administrative Reports Dr. Ford: Bright Spot Tree and Basket Bonanza were a success! The school app is being previewed and is almost up and ready. Dr. Ford is working on a partnership with the town (economic development planning committee) to try and get a grant to help with the playground or to redo some/all of the school grounds. Some things mentioned were clearing some forested area all the way down to the lake (fenced in) and buses/etc. sharing facilities with the town vehicles. Mr. LaLone: Afterschool STEM (science, tech, engineering, math) club will be staring up in a few weeks and go through May. Transportation is provided. The club is grades K-9, with Mrs. Curley leading K/1, Mrs. Groff leading 2/3, Mr. Clapper leading 4/5 and Jayme Bevington is the middle school club leader. They will be working on a ‘future city’ as part of a NYS competition. There will be a meeting on Tuesday, 2/3 at 2:45pm in the Learning Center with a FMCC rep(s) to discuss the summer STEM program. There has been talk of working it into the summer camp program run by Molly Whittaker. All are welcome to attend. Reading Night, originally scheduled for 1/15, is being rescheduled to coincide with the common core info sessions. Pre-K through 2 is Thursday, 2/5 and grades 3-5 is Thursday 2/12. These events will possibly be held in the cafeteria…Terry F is planning the events. On Tuesday, 1/20 at 2:45pm in the Learning Center, there will be a Shared Decision Making team meeting. All are welcome to attend, and the team is looking to add at least 1 parent member. The team will be discussing a school improvement plan. Ms. Kramer: Mariah was not able to attend, but Leslie spoke for her…
A dinner/game night is in the works for grades 6-8 sometime in May, the Timeless Tavern has expressed interest in being involved, providing some/all of the food. Also being considered is some sort of reward for the writing contest in April, maybe something at the Timeless (although that would get expensive quickly) or trophies/monetary prize.
Treasurer’s Report Cristen presented, the report was accepted and approved by all. Checking balance is $4818.13, with $1200 allocated for the playground fund.
Collection Efforts Received $569.60 from Box Tops
Funding Request Karen Izzo (from the guidance office) requested $25 for a gift card prize, as incentive to get the high school ids to apply for financial aid and scholarships. Request denied…a majority felt it was rewarding laziness and free money with more free money
Santaland Holly was not at the meeting, we will discuss at the next meeting
Basket Bonanza A success! Went over very well. Some thoughts for next year… -extend ticket buying time? Send flyers home with kids describing baskets? -change location of baskets so basketball game attendees/etc. can view them? Sell tickets at basketball games? -draw tickets the day after the concert, and notify people by phone?
Other Middle School notes Jenny Crosby was wondering if there was/could be a STEM type club for kids who aren’t interested in science, math etc. Ex) cosmetology, fashion There will be a re-launching of the Interact Club (leadership training, community involvement) soon; several staff members were to meet the week of 1/13-1/17 to discuss. Rachel’s Challenge material will be brought into the club, along with the help of a student hand-picked by the Rotary to attend leadership/team player classes.
