The Purpose of the Eucharist
Since the Eucharist is adherence to the person of Christ, then accepting Christ and clinging to him is fully expressed only when we partake in the Eucharist, which is the culmination of faith. During the Eucharist, Christ becomes the gift offered to the Father for our sake. Through the common royal priesthood, we also are called to give a complete offering of ourselves to God in union with Christ who offers himself to the Father. Our adherence to him means communion with his gift. It means giving our lives to God in order for them to be transformed and become a service to the Church and to our brothers.

[email protected]. Thank you on behalf of all the children this fundraiser supports. The purpose of the Eucharist is your conversion, your turning away from your own will so that it may gradually disappear in your service to others. You go to Holy Communion to be converted, to establish the reign of Christ in your heart from then on, and for his will to become your supreme value. Every reception of the Eucharist should confirm your adherence to his will. Consequently, you should wish that Jesus would foil your plans. The Eucharist should prepare you for this; it should contribute to the gradual demise of your egoism, allowing Christ to grow within you.

God Wants to Penetrate Our Heart
Friends, in the Gospel Jesus explains that sinful behavior flows from within our hearts. How often the Bible speaks of the “heart.” By that it means the core of the self, the deepest center of who we are, that place from which our thoughts and actions arise. God wants to penetrate that heart, so that he is the centre of our souls. But there is something terribly black in the human heart. We are made in the image and likeness of God, but that image can be so distorted by sin as to be barely recognizable. Our faith clearly teaches the awful truth of the fall, and we see the evidence of it in the mystery of sin, which is not to be ignored, not to be trifled with, not to be rationalized away. We are all capable of dark and evil acts. I’m not OK and neither are you. We see the tangled web which is sin. Have our hearts become hardened, so that God cannot get in? Is there a deep resistance in us to grace? Bishop Robert Barron
