PE Department Syllabus Hilltop Middle School 2014 - 2015 Welcome to Middle School PE! Scholarship Grades: Three Components (Grades posted in Jupiter Grades)
Daily Participation: 50% of scholarship grade: must be actively involved ALL period, everyday Fitness, Quarterly, & EOC Test Scores: 10% of scholarship grade: EOC=10%, QRTLY=10% Cardio; State Fitness Gram Standards (on line) 40% of scholarship grade: jogs and runs, daily. Students have to keep heart rate at a training level; they may not start with a walk.
Student’s grades will be a reflection of their achievement in the state and national standards which can be found on the District Website. A (90-100%) - Advanced-works beyond standards B (80-89%) - Proficient- meets the standards C (70-79%) - Basic, below, but PROGRESSING TOWARDS METTING THE STANDARDS D (60-69%) - Below Basic- well below standards F (59% and below) – Far below Basic – displays minimal progress towards standards
Citizenship Grades: Two components: Behavior and Dressing for class. Dressing everyday: clothing (black or navy plain ( no logos) shorts, plain( no logos) grey or white t-shirt or school PE uniform,) athletic shoes, socks, lock, clean up kit, including soap, deodorant, band aids, safety pins, hair ties, sunscreen, feminine protection. Sweats at teacher discretion ONLY!
YOUR UNIFORM IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! Tennis shoes & socks must be
worn in class. Slip on shoes, backless shoes, boots, and other street shoes are prohibited for your own safety. ABSOLUTLY NO JEWELRY OR ELECTRONICS DEVICES OUT IN PE CLASSES!!!!!! All non-suits must participate in their school uniform each day, and will have their citizenship grade lowered as follows:
Each 6 weeks:
1 nonsuits = A 2 nonsuits = B (trash pick up) 3 nonsuits = C (call home) 4 nonsuits = D ( Referral; detention or Saturday School) 5 nonsuits = F (Referral; Saturday School) Chronic Non Suits : Multiple Saturday School Assignments
Behavior: A Grade: Follows directions the first time without complaint Respects all other students and staff all the time Performs each activity to best ability Studies for tests; takes tests seriously B Grade Performs the above 80 % of the time C Grade Performs above 70% of the time D Grade Does not follow above; or less than 60%. F Grade Does not follow above, causes class disruption Consequences for inappropriate behavior:
Verbal Warnings: Included, but not limited to:
Disrespectfulness Unsportsmanlike conduct Talking during instruction Not following directions
Detentions: lunch or after school: Included, but not limited to: Profanity Any vulgarity, including physical gestures, or spitting Repeat Offenses Repeatedly ( more than 1x) having gum/food, tardy, not changing Your parents will be notified.
Office Referrals: Included, but not limited to: Fighting Bullying Vandalism Threatening harm to others/teacher/staff Chronic Non Suits Possession or use of contraband Theft Your parents will be notified.
Make up Work: Written assignment for absences of any type. See your teacher. If you are absent or excused from activity on a mile run day, the mile run or cardio must be made up for credit (see your PE teacher).
Medical Excuses If a student will be missing 2 or more consecutive days of PE, a Doctor’s note is required. Otherwise, if you miss one day, a note from parent/guardian is sufficient. Written make up is required for a grade those days.
