As we are working toward the end of the school year, we are also looking forward to the twelfth year of our Fontana Summer School Program. This year’s program will take place from July 10-July 27. Sessions will be held Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There is a break time during the session for snack and recess. The Summer School Staff is excited about offering this opportunity to your child. We feel that we have refined the program to best meet the needs of our students. The program is divided into two parts. The first half of each day, the program will focus on academic areas and increasing reading, writing, and math skills based on MAP and AIMS WEB data. Children will be placed per their grade level for academic classes. The second half of the program will branch out to encompass more interest areas from Disney to games, fitness, and sports. These classes will be multi-age groupings. As you review the summer school registration information, please read the student and parent expectations of the program carefully. The program requires a commitment on your behalf by providing transportation, reinforcing behavior guidelines and paying a minimal program fee to assist in the cost of instruction and materials. The majority of the costs of the program are paid through the Rural Education Grant program.
Games Galore! Ms. Dornburg Everyone loves to play games. What a fun way to brush up on your basic math skills and learn some new ones at the same time. Unfold some fun and deal out a little friendly competition! Put down the electronic games and try out a wide variety of card and board games. You’ll play some old favorites and try some new ones, as you sharpen your strategy and sportsmanship skills. You can “Count” on this class being fun!
Disney Favorites Mrs. Smith Enter and enjoy the Wonderful World of Disney as you learn, analyze, create, play, and have fun! Share your favorite Disney books, songs, or characters. We will also be comparing and contrasting the different stories. Mickey Mouse ears and Disney hats and clothes are encouraged!
Get Moving, Get Fit
Ms. Green Students will learn about maintaining a healthy life style while participating in different active games that are great to share with the family or neighborhood kids to keep active all summer long. Come be an expert and teach others how to play fun games that will keep you moving and interested.
Schedule Nature Adventure Camp
Mrs. Rabe Each day will take us on a Nature Adventure!. Come explore with us! From hiking to the Fen, the stream, and the woods near our school, to hands on projects and crafts we will have fun with our natural world.
Life Activities Mr. Judd This course will provide students with a variety of games and activities that can be used in everyday life. Some of these games may include badminton, bocce ball, lawn toss, and over-sized Jenga. Some activities may also include hiking and photography. We will take time to learn the rules of each game, and practice playing them so the greatest level of understanding may be reached. Through these games and activities we are hoping that students learn new summer time activities that can be played at home to help keep students active.
Cooking for Kids Mrs. Reinholz Bring your appetite as we explore foods! Make a variety of healthy snacks as we practice our reading, writing, and math skills. We will explore food from around the globe as we learn about healthy eating and prepare a cookbook of recipes.
