Black Out Gittone! The Vineland High School football team is looking to "black out" Gittone Stadium in the team's home opener tonight against Cherry Hill East. The Fighting Clan is asking fans attending the game to wear all black, the same color the team will be wearing, to contribute to a raucous atmosphere in support of VHS Football. VHS Football shirts and other apparel are available at Dusharm's Pro Foot on Main Road in Vineland. Kickoff is set for 7pm under the lights at Gittone.

Vineland looking for another 2-0 start The Vineland High School football team will be aiming for their second consecutive 2-0 start to a season when they host Cherry Hill East tomorrow night in the program's home opener, 7pm, at Gittone Stadium.

The Cougars were 2-8 in 2015 and the 2016 campaign didn't start much better last weekend, as they were blanked, 41-0, by Paul VI in the season opener.
Although it was just one game, the results depict a favorable matchup for the Fighting Clan. East surrendered 294 rushing yards to the Eagles on just 28 attempts -- a whopping 10 yards per carry -- and that could mean Vineland's talented offensive skill players will have some room to operate. Runningbacks Daivon Seymore and Cash Phillips and quarterback Isaih Pacheco are home run threats every time they touch the ball and after managing just seven points in the season-opening win over Bridgeton, the Fighting Clan will be looking to bring the thunder. On the other side of the ball, a very impressive Vineland defense, which swarmed the Bulldogs all night and shut down superstar Markquese Bell, will be facing a Cougar offense that mustered only 62 total yards last week. Cutting down on penalties and other mental mistakes will be a major point of emphasis for the Fighting Clan, but as long as those issues are rectified, Vineland stands a real good shot at moving to 2-0 on the season.

The Vineland High School football team started the 2016 season the right way last weekend, scoring a 7-0 win over Bridgeton on the Bulldogs' home turf Friday night at Bridgeton High School.
Despite numerous penalties on each team, the FIghting Clan was buoyed by a magnificent showing from their defense, led by stallwart 11/11 NJSIAA Football Playoffs Begin TBA linebackers Anthony Reyes, Nihym Anderson and DaQuan Cosby. The Vineland defense was 11/24 MILLVILLE (Thanksgiving Day) 10:30am tasked with the difficult assignment of checking Division 1 prospect Markquese Bell, who played as many as three different positions in the *all games in BOLD are home games at Gittone game, and frustrated the Bulldog star all night. Stadium Anderson and Reyes both recorded two sacks, while Isaih Pacheco and Wynah Kent each snagged an interception. 11/4

Offensively, Vineland was effective for periods of the game largely behind runningbacks Daivon Seymore and Cash Phillips, who combined for 113 rushing yards, while quarterback Lindon Williams completed a beautiful 47-yard pass down the middle to Anderson in the third quarter. In the end, Seymore's 32-yard touchdown run late in the first half was all Vineland needed to hold on for the victory, as the defense continued its outstanding play the remainder of the game.
