THE GRIDIRON Sponsored by the Red & Gray Gridiron Club
Record Performance! In the midst of a dominating performance and the Homecoming festivities, place kicker Robert Aparicio's outstanding performance almost got lost in the shuffle. The sophomore connected on seven extra point attempts, breaking a school record set last year by Robert Kling. Kickers rarely get much credit, but in high school football, where PATs are anything but guaranteed, consistency like Aparacio's is a huge advantage.

Unbeaten Clan takes show back on the road to A.C. Local media has been quick to point out the abysmal record of the Vineland High School football team's opponents thus far. But the Fighting Clan will take on a team with a winning record this week when they travel to Atlantic City tonight for a 6pm showdown against the 3-2 Vikings. Atlantic City won three straight games against Washington Township (26-14), Bridgeton (27-24) and Egg Harbor Township (19-13) after losing their opener to St. Vineland trots onto the field prior to the Homecoming game Augustine, 30-6. The Vikings (Photo from NJ.com) lost last week to Williamstown by a 14-6 margin. Vineland will look to key in on Atlantic City quarterback Nazim Derry and wide receiver Na'h'Sir Morgan, who are far and away the Vikings' top two playmakers. Defensive end Anthony Reyes, along with linebackers Nihym Anderson and Tahjir Rease, will carry the bulk of the responsibility when it comes to spying Derry, while the 6-foot-2 Morgan and his six touchdown receptions will present a challenge to Vineland's secondary. When the Fighting Clan has the ball, they'll likely continue relying on the multifaceted rushing attack led by Isaih Pacheco (719 yards, 10 touchdowns) and Anderson (465 yards, 9 touchdowns). Nahzir Broome and John Garcia have been solid complimentary pieces, while recently eligible transfers Tahjir Rease and De'Andre Tull-Kennedy give Vineland offensive coordinator Jason Volpe a slew of options to keep his own players fresh and opposing defenses guessing. Wide receivers Tyreem Powell and Wynah Kent have also proven to be dangerous threats in the passing game, while Reyes leads the team in receiving with 97 yards on the season.

A common criticism of the Vineland High School football team during the first half of the 2017 season was the Fighting Clan's propensity for starting games slowly. But critics will have to find another aspect in need of improvement after Vineland's Homecoming win over Clearview, as the Red and Gray jumped all over the visiting Pioneers, taking a 35-0 lead into halftime before cruising to a 55-21 lead at Gittone Stadium Saturday afternoon. Isaih Pacheco and Nihym Anderson again led the way, combining for 244 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries. Pacheco also completed 7 of 12 passes for 52 yards, including a pretty 18-yard touchdown to Wynah Kent. It was also the FIghting Clan's first game at full strength after waiting four games for a number of transfers to become eligible, and Clearview was forced to deal with a solid dose of Tahjir Rease and De'Andre Tull-Kennedy, as well. Rease had 11 carries for 90 yards and Tull-Kennedy added an electrifying 90-yard kickoff return touchdown. Junior John Garcia also found paydirt for the first time this season, cashing in on 60 yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Place kicker Robert Aparicio set a school record for extra points made in a game (7), while Anthony Reyes led Vineland's defense with 10 tackles and a sack.
