Board of Directors Meeting Creston Community School District June 19, 2017 The Board of Directors of the Creston Community School District met on Monday, June 19, 2017, in the Board Room at 6:00 p.m. Dr. Brad James, presided and the following answered role call: Tom Eagan, Dr. Brad James, Don Gee, and Galen Zumbach. Board Member Sharon Snodgrass was absent. Administrators present were: Callie Anderson, Brad Baker, Jeff Bevins (arrived 7:20 p.m.), Scott Driskell, Billie Jo Greene, and Steve McDermott. The news media and visitors were present. Eagan moved, Gee seconded, the agenda be approved as presented with the change of adding 6Ab – FFA Presentation the addition of moving 7A and 7B up after 6Ab. Motion carried 4-0. Representatives of the High School FFA gave a presentation of their activities. Brad Baker, Scott Driskell, and Callie Anderson reported on the Walk Thru Review Year-End Report. Brad Baker presented information on the Middle School Exploratory classes whereas 8th Grade Careers and 8th grade HS Experience will be combined and there will be a new exploratory called 8th grade Science Stem. Gee moved, Zumbach seconded to approve the Mayflower Home School Group Food Service Purchase Agreement. Motion carried 4-0. Gee moved, Eagan seconded, to approve the 2017-2018 Parent/Student Handbooks for the High School, Middle School, Elementary, and Coaches/Directors. Motioned Carried 4-0. Zumbach moved, Eagan seconded, to increase the limits on the district credit card and the activities credit card from $5,000 to $15,000. Motion carried 4-0. Gee moved, Eagan seconded, to approve the following Legislative Priorities in the following order: (1st) Number 27: Save (Secure an Advanced Vision for Education); (2nd) Number 7: Mental Health; (3rd)
Number 4: Early Literacy; (4th) Number 6: Dropout/At Risk; (5th) Number 30: Sharing and Reorganization. Motion carried 4-0. Zumbach moved, Eagan seconded, the approval of the Level I & II Child Abuse Investigators and Equity Coordinator as presented. Motion carried 4-0. Eagan moved, Gee seconded, the Board approve the bread bid of Bimbo Bakeries and the milk bid of Anderson Erickson Dairy for the 2017-2018 school year as presented. Motion carried 4-0. Zumbach moved, Gee seconded, the Board approve the fuel bid of Agriland FS for the 2017-2018 school year. Motion carried 4-0. Zumbach moved, Eagan seconded, the Board approve the 2017-2018 Renewal of Cooperative Sponsorship of High School Band. Motion carried 4-0. Zumbach moved, Gee seconded, the Board approve for school budget years beginning on or after July 1, 2016, the transfer of funds from the general fund to the activity fund in the amount of $17,187.76 to purchase protective and safety equipment required for any extracurricular interscholastic athletic contest or competition that is sponsored or administered by an organization as defined in section 280.13. Motion carried 4-0. Callie Anderson gave the CCC report. Billie Jo Green, Business Manager, reported Workman’s Comp mod factor went down from 1.23 to 1.0; Individuals who would like to run for School Board -- candidate filing begins July 10, 2017, and closes August 3, 2017; and new copiers installation will begin the week of July 10. Steve McDermott, Superintendent, gave a review of potential major projects (Capital Improvement Plan) for coming years; 2017-2018 Administrative Responsibilities; GRMC trainer information and proposed contract; and painting projects in the district this summer. The Board discussed more handicap parking at the high school and care of the Burton R. Jones track. The first day of school for the 2017-2018 school year is Thursday, August 24, 2017.
